The Nigerian Professional Football board chairman, Honorable Gbenga Elegbeleye spoke earlier stating that there might not be any take off grant for the 20 clubs to participate in the 2023/2024 season campaign. He also admitted that the winner of the 2023/2024 season will go home with a minimum of N100m (One Hundred Million Naira) prize money.
The chairman Football Club Owners Association Chief Okey Kpalukwu says that the clubs appreciate the fact that for the second season running, there will be prize money to look forward to at the end of the season, he however would want the NPFL to look into the possibility of take off grant like it did last season, according to bsnsports report.
Chief Okey Kpalukwu also appreciated the NPFL board for the N100m (One Hundred Million Naira) prize money for the winner of the league, saying that will help any club who wins the Nigerian league. But also admonished the board to look into the 10 million grant given to clubs and how it has affected clubs positively before looking for help from club sponsors.
NPFL on take off grant and prize
NPFL chairman Honorable Gbenga Elegbeleye said “Let me state clearly that the NPFL board is very happy with the cordial relationship that exists between us and the club Owners, “. However, the N100m is the baseline prize money to the league winner. Gbenga Elegbeleye said the volume of sponsorship clubs attracts before and during the season will determine the amount NPFL will be ready to give any club.
Also, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) 2nd Vice President also said that the baseline prize money for the winner of the 2023/24 season will be N100m, it could be more but we can’t go lower. Also, we’re working on incentives for the teams this season which is to commence on Saturday 9th September.
In 2009, the Nigeria Football grant was aimed at addressing critical issues within the league, such as infrastructure, player welfare, and overall competitiveness. The was to make the Nigeria professional football compete with other major football leagues around the world.
