Super Eagles are set to play their last game of the AFCON qualifiers with Sao Tome on Sunday. The game will be played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo state. The game will be a welcome gift for Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh.
The Super eagles captain, Williams Troost Ekong has assured Nigerians that the eagles will come all out for a victory against visiting side Sao Tome. “We have already qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, but we want to win this match”.
“It is good we welcome our new minister of sport with a great win from the super eagles”. With the World Cup qualifiers starting in November we have to keep the winning mentality ahead, said Ekong.
Nigeria, sitting comfortably atop the group with 12 points, maintains a two-point lead over Guinea Bissau, who currently occupies the second position. Nigeria has already secured their place in Ivory Coast. The final game of the qualifiers which is to be played this weekend, will determine who tops the group. A victory in Uyo for Nigeria will give them 15 point putting them at the top of the table.
In their last outing at the Nest of Champions, the Super Eagles edged Benin Republic 2-1 in a 2021 AFCON qualifier on November 13, 2019. The Cheetahs scored first before Victor Osimhen and Samuel Kalu gave Nigeria victory.
