PSG Star Kylian Mbappe Excluded from Pre-Season Squad Amid Contract Uncertainty
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has decided to exclude Kylian Mbappe from their pre-season squad, following the player’s clear indication of not triggering the extension clause in his existing contract, which is set to expire in the summer of 2024.
The Ligue 1 champions are eager to avert a scenario where Mbappe could potentially depart from the club on a free transfer. In light of this, they have actively made him available for offers this summer.
Several clubs worldwide have been approached, but an unexpected interest has emerged from Saudi Arabia, which could send shockwaves throughout the footballing community.
According to reliable sources at 90min, PIF-backed Al Hilal has made a formal and colossal offer of €300 million (£259 million) to acquire Mbappe’s services, potentially making him the most expensive player ever. This sum would surpass the previous record set in 2017 when PSG acquired Neymar for €222 million (£198 million).
While PSG is willing to accept the lucrative offer, the final decision ultimately lies with Mbappe himself. As per 90min’s understanding, the talented forward is currently not inclined towards a move to the Middle East at this stage of his career.
Mbappe to Saudi speculation and his focus on a move to Real Madrid
Indeed, insiders close to the Saudi side acknowledge that their proposal stands little chance of being approved by Mbappe. As reported earlier this week by 90min, the talented player’s heart is firmly set on a future move to Real Madrid.
Real Madrid has maintained a keen interest in Mbappe for the long term, and club president Florentino Perez remains confident that the Frenchman will be part of the squad by 2024. This is when Mbappe’s contract with PSG will conclude, potentially making him a free agent if he opts not to sign an extension.
While a summer transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu is not entirely ruled out, Real Madrid is cautious about paying a substantial transfer fee for a player who could be acquired on a free transfer in just six months.
On the other hand, PSG is not closing the door on the possibility of Mbappe signing a contract extension with them. However, they are actively seeking to generate interest from other European clubs in the 24-year-old star. PSG’s asking price is set at a minimum of €200m (£172m), aiming to entice potential suitors to make offers for the talented forward.
