Manchester City earned a win against Bayern Munich in pre-season game at Japan national stadium
- McAtee opened the score line with his first senior team goal
- Aymeric Laporte scored the wining goal for man city
- Kyle Walker captained Man City despite Bayern’s interest
“McAtee marked a milestone in his career by netting his first senior goal for the club, giving City the lead in the first half. However, their victory was not secured until the 85th minute when Laporte’s decisive goal sealed the win after Mathys Tel had leveled the score late on.
The match began with a relatively slow pace, with Bayern Munich only coming to life after about 15 minutes. They came close to scoring twice in quick succession. First, Jamal Musiala’s goal-bound effort from six yards out was brilliantly blocked by Nathan Ake, denying what looked like a certain goal. Moments later, former Man City player Leroy Sane struck a free kick that thumped off the crossbar, adding to the excitement.
These near-misses seemed to ignite Man City’s attack, and they capitalized about three minutes later, breaking the deadlock to take a 1-0 lead. Rico Lewis embarked on a brilliant run into the penalty area, where he skillfully cut the ball back to Julian Alvarez at the center of the box. Alvarez’s side-footed shot was well saved by Yann Sommer, but James McAtee was in the right place at the right time to tap home the rebound.
Aymeric Laporte scored the wining goal
With the game finely poised, City had to endure some tense moments before Laporte’s late heroics secured their hard-fought victory against a determined Bayern Munich side.
Bayern dominated the first half, consistently proving themselves as the superior team. Kingsley Coman’s attempt to level the score was thwarted by an impressive save from Ederson just before halftime. Serge Gnabry set up Coman beautifully on the left side of the penalty area, but Ederson’s quick reflexes denied the French forward’s powerful shot across the goal.
Bayern almost gifted City an undeserved second goal just before the break due to some sloppiness at the back. A slightly wayward back pass from Dayot Upamecano led to a dangerous situation, but Bayern goalkeeper Sommer managed to prevent disaster with a timely intervention. Alvarez tried to capitalize on the opportunity, but Sommer’s outstretched foot redirected the Argentine’s shot around the post, sparing Upamecano from embarrassment.
The second half saw a flurry of changes, disrupting the flow of the game as expected. However, City managed to regain momentum in the 57th minute when Bernardo Silva’s pace down the right flank caused trouble for Bayern’s defense. His well-placed cut-back found a crowded area in the box, and Manuel Akanji’s shot forced substitute goalkeeper Sven Ulreich into a brilliant point-blank save.
Despite being outplayed for the majority of the second half, Bayern found an equalizer in the 81st minute, courtesy of Mathys Tel. The goal came after Ederson had initially saved Leon Goretkza’s back-heel attempt, and Tel was in the right place to capitalize on the rebound.
However, Bayern’s joy was short-lived, as City quickly reclaimed the lead just three minutes later. Aymeric Laporte tapped home from close range, reestablishing City’s advantage and setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the match.
