Benjamin Mendy found not guilty of rape and attempted rape

  • He was found not guilty of six other rape charges back in January
  • French World Cup winner was released by Man City at end of June

Benjamin Mendy acquitted of one count of rape and one count of attempted rape.

The former left-back of Manchester City, Benjamin Mendy, has been found not guilty on charges of raping a woman in October 2020 and attempting to rape another woman two years prior. Both incidents were alleged to have occurred at his residence.

Earlier this year, Mendy was cleared of six counts of rape, but two additional charges were set for retrial during the summer. However, a 12-person jury at Chester Crown Court has now acquitted him of both charges.

Mendy was initially charged by Cheshire Constabulary in August 2021 and was held in custody while still under contract with Manchester City. His contract expired at the end of June, having remained inactive for almost two years.
