Barcelona Manager Xavi Confirms Ousmane Dembélé’s Departure to Paris Saint-Germain
In a press conference, Barcelona manager Xavi officially confirmed the departure of French winger Ousmane Dembélé (26) from the Catalan club to join Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Various reliable sources, including L’Équipe and Fabrizio Romano, have reported that PSG exercised a €50m release clause in Dembélé’s contract with his former club, Borussia Dortmund. Negotiations between PSG and Barcelona will take place over the next five days to finalize more favorable payment terms. However, it is expected that Dembélé’s move to Parc des Princes is imminent and the deal should be completed by the end of the week.
Xavi admitted how hurting it was to see him leave
Xavi expressed his disappointment with Dembélé’s decision to return to France, considering the efforts made by Barcelona to support and nurture him during his time at the club. The Frenchman began his career at Stade Rennais before joining Barcelona. According Fabrizio Romano report, Xavi shared his sentiments during the conference, stating, “It hurts me because we took care of him to make him happy here. But we can’t compete, he’s leaving.”
According to Xavi, Dembélé made it clear that he aspires to join PSG and was resolute about his decision. Despite the club’s efforts to convince him to stay, Dembélé had already spoken with PSG manager Luis Enrique and the club president, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, leaving no room for persuasion.
Sources suggest that Dembélé will sign a lucrative five-year contract with PSG, binding him to the Ligue 1 champions until 2028, as reported by RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins.
