- Mikel Arteta response to Arsenal’s interest in signing Mbappe from PSG
Arteta Interested in Mbappe : PSG is currently actively seeking to offload their forward as he has made it clear that he will not renew his contract. With his current deal set to expire in 2024, the club is determined to transfer him during this summer transfer window to avoid losing him for free.
While there is interest from Saudi Arabia in acquiring Mbappe, trusted sources have informed 90min that the player’s heart is set on a move to Real Madrid instead. However, it’s worth noting that the two parties have not yet reached an agreement on the terms of the deal, contrary to PSG’s beliefs.
Reports from both France and England have linked Arsenal with a potential move for Mbappe, raising speculation that the Premier League club might have a strong chance of securing his services should he decide to make the move across the Channel.
Mikel Arteta response to Mbappe to Arsenal’s speculation
During a press conference, Arteta tactfully avoided delving into speculations surrounding potential signings.
“I prefer not to discuss players who are not part of our team,” Arteta firmly stated.
When questioned about Arsenal’s plans for further acquisitions in this transfer window, considering the notable arrivals of Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and Declan Rice, totaling over £200m in combined fees, Arteta responded, “I cannot say for certain. There will be ongoing movements, with ins and outs expected.”
“It’s still early days. The past week has been relatively quiet. If opportunities arise to enhance our squad, we will certainly consider them. However, our priority is not to weaken the team, so we must carefully assess any potential moves,” Arteta added.
It’s worth noting that Arsenal had previously pursued the signing of Mbappe when he left Monaco in 2017. The then-manager Arsene Wenger reportedly met with the forward and his family in an attempt to convince him to join the Gunners. Nevertheless, Mbappe ultimately chose to join PSG instead.
