Newcastle Sandro Tonali has been issued a 10-month match ban for betting and gambling. The Italian joined Newcastle last summer for a deal worth £55m from Milan.
According to Italian Football Federation (FIGC), Sandro and two other players were victims of gabling and are under serious investigation. Sandro Tonali is set to face a 10-month match ban which was initially said to be eighteen months but was later reduced to 10 months.
The Italian player was not just banned from football but was also charged with €20,000 fine. He will also undergo a gambling rehabilitation program to help his mentality.
“The FIGC prosecutor and Tonali have reached an agreement which I have already approved,” said FIGC president Gabriele Gravina. “The agreement consists of a 10-month ban plus eight months of rehab activities and at least 16 public appearances.”
Juventus’ Nicolò Fagioli was previously hit with a seven-month ban while Aston Villa loanee Nicolò Zaniolo’s fate remains undecided.
This means that the Italian will not be available for Newcastle till August next year due to his suspension. Tonali will also not be available for his countryside for the forthcoming 2024 euro probably if they qualify.
According to the report, the suspension still warrants him to train with the English team during the ban, Newcastle’s rejuvenation has caused a sparking headline beating the League 1 giant 4-1 at home during their round 2 games with PSG, which means he will not be with the club’s transformation
